To help you get you acquainted with some of the new stuff available to you, here's a great video tour I discovered:

Google Desktop Version 5

Like the Web wasn't enough...

You can now download Google's latest temptation - which puts them in charge of your computer's desktop and files (searching, that is).

It's called Google Desktop v.5.

I just installed it on my new Vista laptop, which bumped the default Vista sidebar (which was nice, but not 'Google-nice').

Enjoy this latest freebie from Google.

A Thank You To Google...

Permenant Link To: A Thank You To Google...

As a way of kicking off 2007, and as a way of countering some of the nonsense people have been unfairly posting about Google lately ('they're evil', 'they're a mega-corp who's just out to make money', and other associated nonsense), I'd like to take a few minutes and say something thankful and gracious to a company who I owe a lot of gratitude to, for the reasons you'll see below.

As a matter of fact, I encourage all of you with a blog to join with me today (the 1st business day of 2007) in sending out a shout of thanks to Google. Let's let 'em know how grateful we are for all the things they do for us each and every day. Let's create a buzz!

Dear Google,

Thank you for the following:
  • Thank you for allowing me to find practically anything I want - for FREE!
  • Thanks for allowing me to find pictures and photos that interest me - for FREE!
  • Along the same lines, thanks for the awesome photo organizer you provide - for FREE!
  • Thank you for giving me all the news that's important to me - for FREE!
  • Thank you for letting me view and travel the world virtually - for FREE!
  • Thank you for hosting all my bandwidth-guzzling videos - for FREE!
  • Thank you for hosting my less bandwidth-guzzling, but equally important, photos - for FREE!
  • Thank you for providing the means for me to share my thoughts with the world via my Blogger-based blog - for FREE!
  • Thank you for giving me one of the best email applications on the planet - for FREE!
  • And thanks for the Gigabytes of storage that goes with it - for FREE!
  • Thanks you for giving me calendaring, word-processing, and spreadsheet tools - for FREE!
  • Thanks for the RSS reader that allows me to easily keep track of the information I'm interested in - for FREE!
  • Thank you for helping me find local businesses when I need them - for FREE!
  • Thank you for giving me the tools necessary to get from Point A to Point B in the most efficient manner - for FREE!
  • Thank you for allowing me to create discussion groups and hosting them - for FREE!
  • Thanks for you totally customizable, extremely useful toolbar that you give me - for FREE!
  • Thanks for helping me manage my bookmarks easily - for FREE!
  • Thanks for giving me a way to clip and store content I find on the Web - for FREE!
  • Thanks for allowing me to create custom search engines that not only help my users find what they're looking for faster, but you give me a cut of the advertising profits!
  • Thank you for giving me a way to easily monetize my content, and for paying me regularly!

And while we're at it:

  • Congratulations for becoming one of the most successful companies in history
  • Congratulations for making billions of dollars each year
  • Congratulations for dominating your market in a way that most companies can only dream about doing
  • Congratulations for having tons of incredibly smart, creative, and innovative people in your fold - their hard work continues to not only amaze me, but benefit me tremendously!
  • Congratulations on all your success, you deserve it, and I hope 2007 is even more spectacular for you.

Your friend, and devoted fan,

Google Launches New Patent Search Engine

Some may find this extremely useful, while others may simply find it interesting.

Google has just launched a U.S. patent search engine. It includes full-text search as well as each patent's supporting images.

If you're inventor, you'll love it.

If you're just wanting to waste a bit time, check out the patent for the toy skunk (some people have waaaaaaay too much time on their hands).
