Two New Signs That Web Video Usage Is About Explode!

It's time to comb your hair and get out of your pajamas, not only because it's almost 10 A.M. (here in Bloomington) but because it appears that video on the Web is about to ramp-up in a big way, and it may be time for you to consider putting a video of your mug online. It's something I'm preparing to do.

Two things I witnessed this past week have me anticipating a major push in the online video arena.

1. For the first time ever (at least that I'm aware of) Amazon.com has allowed an author to post a video on their site to be used in the promotion of a book. Whoa!! The book is America (The Book) by John Stewart (of The Daily Show fame). Here's a link to John's video.

Whether or not a this is going to be a regularly-featured-feature remains to be seen, but it sure doesn't seem to be harming the book's #1 ranking. Talk about a strong selling tool!

2. The pre-launch announcement of instantvideogenerator.com, a new tool for easily adding streaming video to your site with just a few clicks of your mouse. I'm eagerly awaiting the official launch of this service.

Why do I suspect Web video is about to explode?

  • There are now tools for creating it that even Homer Simpson could understand
  • Bandwidth is becoming less of an issue for everyone
  • A major online player (Amazon.com) has used it as a direct marketing tool - essentially stepping up to the plate to say, this works!
  • The herd mentality is about to kick-in with regards to video - If they do it, so should I

How will you use video?

Deek, I agree it's going to explode. I use a free service called Userplane - and it's incredibly easy to post videos to your blog. Quality is another matter, of course. Combine that with the podcasting phenomenon, and you've got the capability in the near future for streaming video podcasting....it's going to change media again.

Hey Greg,

It sure is going to change media!

With information overload worsening, people want ways of getting targeted information - fast!

The combination of video and RSS could be unbeatable.

I'm keeping a close eye on it.

Religion and Politics .
Once again, since this site carries my name, posts containing religious and/or political views (nice or not) will be deleted.
Stay on Topic - Where Possible.
I know it's easy to get off on another tangent, and it's not really that big of a deal, but try to confine your comments to the discussion at hand. :)
