Share Search Results Via RSS - Very Cool!

Permenant Link To: Share Search Results Via RSS - Very Cool!

Is it just me, or are search and RSS innovations happening at an almost frightening rate?

It seems like every morning I wake up, there's something new on the search/RSS front that just blows my mind!

The newest innovation, from Yahoo, called My Yahoo Search (you must be signed in to your Yahoo account to use) allows you to share search results you've deemed useful and worthy of consideration, with others via an RSS feed. Here's how it works.

Once you've signed into your My Yahoo account, you navigate to the My Yahoo Search Page. From here you enter your keyword(s), say Germany. then press the Search the Web button.

This is the important part: each item that appears on the subsequent results page has an associated Save link.

Clicking this link will save the item to something Yahoo calls My Web, which is basically your personal collection of saved search results (another great feature to explore in-depth at a later time). This allows you easily find and use search results that you previously found useful.

Not only is the saving feature innovative, but items in your your My Web collection can be split up into categories (you define), with each category containing its own unique RSS feed, which is updated each time you add an item to that category in your collection.

This is a really nice use of technology. Hats off to Yahoo!

What are some practical uses for this? How about:

  • Sharing vacation planning links with your family (let them stay up to date with things you found online)
  • Kids with research projects (sharing links with their fellow students who might be working on a group project)
  • Those of us with clients (what a great way of sharing those great resources we all find from time to time that our clients can benefit from)

I'm sure there are a ton of other possibilities, but this should be enough to get you started. Feel free to share any others you may come up with.

Yahoo, Google, Ask, Clusty, just keep the tech-goodies coming!

I am happy to provide this commenting feature to enable discussion of the articles posted. In fact, I appreciate and encourage you to participate.

Like everything else I put my name on, I hold this site to a very high standard. What you say in your comments reflect indirectly on me. Therefore, please be aware of the following guidelines/rules for posting your thoughts.

Religion and Politics .
Once again, since this site carries my name, posts containing religious and/or political views (nice or not) will be deleted.
Stay on Topic - Where Possible.
I know it's easy to get off on another tangent, and it's not really that big of a deal, but try to confine your comments to the discussion at hand. :)
