Google is finally ready to bring their signature search technology to your desktop.
Today, they announced the beta of Google Desktop Search, which is a simple application you install, enabling you to search the files on your own computer.
It seems everyone is aware that Windows' built-in search feature represents the Pong version of search technology and that a better solution is severely needed. Just a couple months ago I discussed the release of another desktop search tool by Copernic. You'll have to play with both to figure out which one works best for you.
I will say that one of the most unique features about Google's desktop search tool that's not likely to show up on any other desktop search tool is its integration with Google's Web search - do a regular Web search on Google, and any results found on your desktop appear just above the Web results:

That's pretty useful!
