Another Great Flash Idea from the Mind of Armand Morin

Permenant Link To: Another Great Flash Idea from the Mind of Armand Morin

Hey Gang,

Just wanted to share with you another great Flash-based idea that has taken the online world by storm. It's called AudioGenerator, and it comes from Armand Morin, a gentleman that seems to pop out great ideas like this every week.

What is AudioGenerator, how's it work, and what's the point? All very good questions. Let first tell you, that in a nutshell, AudioGenerator facilitates an easy way for you or your customers to record audio, which can then be make accessible from your site with only a few lines of HTML, with Flash technology playing a central role in the whole process. The implications of this functionality are HUGE! But more on that in a moment.

Let me just briefly step you through the process of using the service. First, you sign up for the AudioGenerator service, at which point you are provided a toll free number. Either you or your customers can then call this number at anytime in order to record a message (yes, the phone is the recoding device). The AudioGenerator service then generates a snippet of code, which you copy and paste onto an HTML page, which when viewed will display a set of Flash playback controls configured to playback that previously recorded message.

How's it work? Well, when someone calls to record a message, the message gets converted to a SWF file and assigned a unique filename, such as 4392us3.SWF. The snippet of code AudioGenerator creates for the message does two things: it embeds a set of Flash-based audio controls (which is nothing more than a SWF file that exist on the AudioGenerator site), then it tells the embedded audio-controls SWF to load message 4392us3.SWF. In other words, it's using loadMovie() for its main functionality. It's a wee bit more involved than that, but I'm sure you get the general idea.

For those without knowledge of Flash, this is the easiest way to get audio on their site. AudioGenerator provides the tools for managing the messages, as well as the bandwidth for hosting them.

Now, why would anyone want to add audio to their site with this service? This is an easy one: credibility and trust! Many folks who offer a service or sell a product online want ways of connecting with their customers in a more personal manner. What better way than to actually talk to them? Hearing someone's voice does wonders for opening the human mind on so many levels. In addition, a collection of audio testimonials from satisfied customers can do wonders for your bottom line.

Armand's site provides a lot more information, as well as some actual samples of the technology in use. Run over to AudioGenerator and check out how this guy is using Flash to make a killing!
