Weddings and Flash

Permenant Link To: Weddings and Flash

Ah, Spring is in the air (if you can get past all the rain). With Spring comes warmer days, blooming flowers, fresh air, and of course the most popular Spring pastime of tieing the knot (what an interesting way of describing marriage - Note: I love my wife dearly :-)).

Due to the fact that my mind constantly has Flash stuff floating around up there, coupled with the fact that weddings are going on everywhere (thus I'm thinking about them more), I made a unique connection the other day about a possible niche market for Flash developers. Are you ready?

Interactive Wedding Announcement (or something less technical).

This would be a Flash movie that contained several items of interest pertaining to the upcoming event, including:
  • Wedding date info

  • Interactive map to the wedding location and reception

  • Gift registry info (including pictures and links to buy the stuff online)

  • Photos of the couple (as they were growing up, after they met)

  • A video invitation

  • Important phone numbers and email addresses

  • Anything else your creative mind comes up with

Since a Flash movie can be easily turned into a standalone application, you could create it, burn it to a CD, and let the parties distribute it as they wish.

You could even offer to do a follow-up after the wedding. Included would be pictures, video, stories, music and anything else associated with the wedding extravaganza!

Advertising would be a cinch! Just place ads in the paper, or go around town talking to tux shops, florists, caterers, jewelers to see if they would let you advertise in their place of business. Provide them samples. I think most would be willing to help, especially if you could find a tactful way to promote their product or service on every project you produce (maybe in the Credit section). Maybe give them a cut of the profits.

Since money is flying around like water shooting out of a ruptured fire hose anyway, I can only imagine something like this would be an easy sell to the engaged parties.

Wedding are big business, so I can only imagine something like this would take off in just about any location (unless you live somewhere where people don't get married)

Oh, I just thought about this: The idea could be adapted for anniversaries as well. :)

If you have any other adaptations, share them with the rest of us.
