Creative Flash Before and After's
Permenant Link To: Creative Flash Before and After's
If you have a business, or you are doing Flash development for a business, that provides a service of changing/improving the look of something (landscaping, plastic surgery, physical trainer, home remodeling, etc.), you are probably aware of the power of before and after shots. Customers love comparing the way something used to look with its new and improved look. It can be a big motivation behind their decision to act or not act.
Many times, when companies use the before and after sales approach, it involves nothing more than placing two pictures side-by-side, showing the dramatic improvement their service provides, which you can see for yourself. While this has been an effective approach in the past, the movie, 'Terminator 2' introduced the world to the technology of morphing, or the process of seamlessly 'melting' one image's unique features into a second images unique features. As a result, people started using this high-tech morphing effect in a lot of different ways.
I've thought about how great it would be if there was an easy way of producing this effect for Flash projects that required it (as mentioned earlier). Well, keep asking, and you *will* receive! :)
A company by the name of develotec has created a program called FlashMorph, which allows you to create a morphing bitmap sequence in a relatively compact file size. It offers similar functionality as Flash's built-in shape hints, only better, because it allows for bitmap manipulation, something Flash's built-in shape hints can't handle.
If you want to add some elegance to your before and after elements, or if you want to do some cool Terminator-like visual effects, check out FlashMorph. They have some simple, yet nice examples, on their site.

Like everything else I put my name on, I hold this site to a very high standard. What you say in your comments reflect indirectly on me. Therefore, please be aware of the following guidelines/rules for posting your thoughts.
After familiarizing yourself, please post away! :)
Keep it Clean.
Foul and offensive language is not only moronic and childish, but any posts containing it WILL be deleted!
Play Nice.
Posts containing personal attacks of any kind will be deleted. If you disagree with someone's opinion, provide an opposing one, without attacking the person. For example, "Derek, your stance on eating doughnuts will harm future generations." Not, "Derek, you're an idiot, and your stance on eating doughnuts is the dumbest thing I've ever heard..."
Religion and Politics .
Once again, since this site carries my name, posts containing religious and/or political views (nice or not) will be deleted.
Stay on Topic - Where Possible.
I know it's easy to get off on another tangent, and it's not really that big of a deal, but try to confine your comments to the discussion at hand. :)
